18+ Thursday Night of Wrestling at Rise SlamDown!
There was no better feeling than growing up and spending my teens in the late 90s watching that wrestling show emanating from America on a Thursday night! It was full of attitude and great story telling.
Well! This past Thursday 9th September, the attitude was there but intensified by England’s Maddest Wrestling Show ✊Rise Underground Pro Wrestling✊. Rise presented Slam Down from Sheaf Street, Leeds. It is by far the best over 18s wrestling promotion in the UK right now!

Sheaf St is one of Rises newest venues and has a really swanky feel. When entering the warehouse part of the venue, we were greeted by a professional layout with great lighting, a projection of the events graphic on the wall and the stunning brand new ring canvas (which had been funded by the fans in a Just Giving Campaign) full of balloons and party blowers.
Throughout the show the projectors displayed a cool graphic for each wrestlers match.
We were all greeted with a warm welcome by Mr Jonny Santiago who entered full of energy and got the fans hyped ready for a fun filled night of wrestling. But he was soon cut short by S.O.B.E.R manager Daniel O’Doherty and members Cindy, B.A Rose, Sean Only and HT Drake. O’Doherty got on the microphone and announced it was young Myles Kayman’s 18th birthday. He called him out to join the party but not before insulting the Rise Faithful as much as possible and reminding us that he got rid of Boris Koslov at the last show. Then out popped Myles with his freshly cow-licked overly styled hair and a smile like a Cheshire cat. Danny had plans to make Myles 18th Birthday one to remember, he set up and arranged chairs in the ring and arranged a game of musical chairs with his fellow S.O.B.E.R members. Daniel O'Doherty was the judge. All of the members were very competitive and poor Myles was eliminated 2nd (Poor lad can't even win a game of musical chairs on his birthday). The game continued until Sean Only and HT Drake were left, but the party was interrupted by General Managers for the night England’s Hardest Men ShreddyBrek and Big Lou Nixon accompanied by their Uncle Ralph who gate crashed the game. England’s Hardest Men didn’t do too well and were eliminated straightaway leaving just Sean Only and Uncle Ralph. Sean Only was the final winner but only because he cheated. This set up the first match of the night as General Managers England’s Hardest Men set up a Group A Tag Team Match between themselves Vs Sean Only and HT Drake.
SOBER isolated Big Lou in their corner throughout a lot of the match but he used his martial arts background to retaliate. Sean Only delivered many painful strikes as HT Drake not to gimmicky just solid wrestling with a cheating underminer. As you guessed it, Shreddy’s strong frame made for some good slamming as well as a nice hot tag. There was interference from Benjii Rage.
Then the big bad ginger nut Danny Hudson made his way to the ring and took to the microphone. He started to degrade and ridicule everyone favourite ‘Grafter, David Graves. David who was injured at the hands of Hudson has been Rise’s sound engineer ever since. You could see in Dave's eyes that all he wanted to do was knock the ginger out of Hudson! But there will be a time and place for that once David is fit and healthy. The fans were not impressed with Hudson’s antics and chanted “You’re just a pound land, Sheamus”. It was then to the fans delight that he was interrupted by new comer Craig West. Now we had our second match.
Craig was fast on his feet and gave the hard hitting Hudson a good scrap. Throughout the match Danny Hudson took every opportunity he could to stick his finger up at David Graves and rub salt into wound, fuelling this feud.
A Woman's Championship Tournament match where the debuting Nightshade appeared to take on a mystery opponent. This opponent was soon revealed when the leader Danny of S.O.B.E.R appeared with the birthday boy Myles and his personal bouncer Ragnar and announced that Nightshade would be facing SOBER member Cindy. Nightshade did not only have to contend with the agile Cindy but also the members of Sober and their meddling shenanigans. She certainly did this by slamming her bottom into Cindy's head from the other side of the ring, she used a powerful style and unleashed a pinpointed Canon Ball.
Group B – 3 Team 6 Point 'Slobber Knocker’ between S.O.B.E.R Team B (Myles and B.A Rose) Vs Boyz 2 Men (Pop Punk Kid and Jack Bandicoot) Vs The Lion Kings (Sebb Strife and The Ugandan Warrior Nsereko) in an elimination match.
This was an all-out war! B.A Rose and Sebb Strife tested each other's strength, Nsereko picked both Boy 1 and 2 up and performed a Ugandan drop. Myles looked like he was going to sup his very first alcoholic drink, Boy One climbed up a drain pipe like Insey Winsey spider and leaped onto everyone with a Splash. Members of SOBER took every opportunity to stick their beaks into the match. There was also the hardest Suplex to the outside concrete we’ve ever seen! (Click Here to watch).
Both wrestlers have excellent in ring technical skills which in the past have been witnessed in main event matches (Dom Black Vs Saxon Huxley at True Grit Wrestling and Gene Munny Vs The good Dr Darwin at Rise). However this was not your standard match! This was a perve off! Both guys attempted to out sexy each other till C*nt-stable of the night Martin Kirby interrupted and demanded that the sexy, meaty, fun needed to stop and that they should put on a traditional wrestling match. They did for a bit, but soon deviated back to their sexy antics at every opportunity they could, including giving the well-known Leeds Super Fan, Super Gran the night of her life with her own personal lap dance.
Main Event 1
This was the first of two main events. Originally it was announced that the hard-core match between Big Joe and Danny Darko would be first, but they knew it could get messy so decided to have the Rise Championship Match first between the current champion Dr Leonardo Darwin, accompanied by his bastard son Joe Vega Vs The Muscle Cat Saxon Huxley. The match included Slams, Suplexes and Bronco Busters. As predicted Darwin’s bastard son got involved, to give his beloved father the upper hand, but he got mistakenly hit by his daddy dearest. The combination of Saxon Huxley’s powerful and mighty mystic fists Vs The Good Doctor's cunning charisma made an enjoyable match to watch. It also included El Ligero sticking his horny head into the match and kicking poor Cowboy John in the face for a controversial finish.
Main Event 2
The second main event was the hard-core battle between current champion Danny Darko Vs Big Joe for the Rise Hard-Core Championship. From the beginning weapons were brought from the back. They included two trash cans, one full of single light tubes as well as light tubes duct taped into a cross and the other filled with goodies such as, balloons filled with fun tacs, a tray of plastic forks, a plastic arm and finally a wooden frame with carpet grips and barbed wire. Both hard-core hard men put on an epic encounter of pure hard-core proportion with every weapon in the ring being utilised. They smashed light tubes over each other, used baseball bats with thumbtacks attached on each other. Joe's nether Regions were exposed to a block that contained well over 30 plastic forks all pointing at the sweet spot. Darko’s forehead was grated and the barbed wire square strategically placed between two chairs ready for a victim to be slammed onto. The match ended and the fans were invited into the ring to celebrate, then Michael Caden appeared and challenged the winner of the match (see spoilers) to a No Rope, Barbed Wire Death Match at SpookySlam.
Overall Rise certainly lived up to its expectation of being England's Maddest Wrestling Show. It certainly got our pulses racing with its mix of chaos, excitement and suprises. There were many questions which need to be answered in their next show. So get yourselves to Leeds for;

Opening Segment; Sean Only won musical Chairs after pushing Uncle Ralph off, Uncle Ralph was not happy and retaliated by going for Sean.
Match 1; Benji rage disrupted the match with an unscheduled visit and distracted England's Hardest Men. Shreddybrek chased Benjii down but this left Big Lou outnumbered and vulnerable against the SOBER team. HT Drake took advantage and picked up the win.
Match 2; Debuting Craig West picked up the win via a Roll Up Pin after a match mostly dominated by Danny Hudson.
Match 3; Cindy won to advance to the next round in the Woman's Tournament after business gimp B.A Rose dropkicked Nightshade when the ref was not looking. All of S.O.B.E.R then attacked Nightshade but the Voodoo Queen jumped from the merchandise stage and made the save.
Match 4; S.O.B.E.R, B team were eliminated first by Boyz 2 Men,. However The Lion Kings defeated Boys 2 Men and picked up the 8 points in the Tag League Tournament.
Match 5; Gene Munny defeated Dom Black. But as Gene was leaving Martin Kirby attacked Dom, causing Gene to come back and console him. Does this mean something? Will they become a Tag Team? Will they use the fans chant abs their tag name? Mixed grill!
Main Event 1; Ligero interrupted this match and kicked referee Cowboy John in the face. This left no referee to count for the pinfall as Saxon Huxley had Darwin rolled up ready for the count. The second referee of the night Sharpe made his way out. Darwin kicked Saxon in his mystic melons causing disqualification and resulting in Saxon picking up the win, but The Good Doctor Darwin was still the Rise Champion.
Main Event 2; After the hard fought hard-core battle between both men, Big Joe picked up the victory over Danny Darko by slamming him through the fan made carpet strip barbed wire laced weapon and covering him for the pin. Big Joe then invited the Rise Faithful fans into the ring to celebrate. He accepted Michael Cadens No ropes, Barbed Wire Death Match Challenge at the Temple of Boom Spooky Slam 2 on the 27th October.
Here is a video showing you the aftermath that the Hard-Core Match caused on the brand spanking new Rise Canvas.
